A few months ago, I was 'displaced' from the job I enjoyed more than any other in my work history. When I took the job, it was made clear that it was temporary. I had two projects to complete and then I would move on to another job in the company. Problem is, I had to take a job that is basically a demotion.
Now, I perform a repetitive task that only requires a high school diploma. I have two A.S. degrees and a Bachelors in Management.
While I am glad to be working, I am very stressed because I am not challenged, not happy and making about 18% less than before. I have been putting in for a ton of jobs, had a few interviews but no offers.
In my last job, I was preparing some manufacturing plants for ISO 9001/14001. I spent almost 4 years in this position and got some great experience and training. I wrote tons of job procedures, job descriptions and newsletter articles.
What am I doing wrong? Most of my interview feedbacks have been positive - but I lost out to people with more experience in engineering or management. One interviewer said I acted nervous at first...who isn't nervous in an interview? I am sick of my physical job! HELP!

You don't say where you live, that might make a difference.

Regardless, you might want to get some interview coaching since you are perceived as nervous by some interviewers. That seems to me to be the most problematic since management is the type of job where you need to be seen as cool under pressure (IMHO).

Also, do you have an examples of the procedures and articles you've written? Or other work product? Once you get to the interview, you could offer those to the interviewer for review.

maybe in is not just your interviewing skills, but all that experience may mean they have to pay you more than they would for someone with less expereince.

I got my current accounting position almost 12 years ago beating out a former cfo of a small company. i am sure i came a lot cheaper.

You know that could be it, but it doesn't seem to me that he has enough experience for that to be a factor.

I'm still banking on a case of "interview jitters" that is being off putting to the interviewer.
