Is it by what you do for work? Or by your social life/status? Or what?
I used to think it was all about work - I was a programmer, and everything revolved around that. Now I'm older, hopefully wiser, and I'm thinking it's how you do things, rather than the things you do, that defines you. Definately not by work in my humble opinion. I think you are defined by your social circle as well as your family.

I don't.
What's the point? I am. What else is there? |

I think of myself in terms of what I do at work and away from work, how I think and feel about everything.
But it seems that often other people think of me in terms of what I do-I'm a lawyer. ] Not necessarily so, not all lawyers are ass.holes. |

|
Lawyers have a difficult position in life; if you hire an attorney to sue someone, you want the meanest bad-ass out there.
If you're being sued, you hate the plantiff's attorney and then seek out the meanest, bad-ass etc. |

Some people do want a nasty ass mofo, but probably in divorce cases where emotion is running the show more than in other cases. I don't do divorce or criminal, the latter won't pay if you win because they should never have had to hire a lawyer since they were "innocent", and wont' pay if you lose, because, of course, you lost.
Most lawyers are fairly civil to each other, since the animosity can get in the way of getting the work done, but some are candy asses. They send mean faxes and file papers with hellacious accusations, but they can't bring themselves to speak on the phone or talk face to face. Usually it's the clients on the other side who hate me, not their lawyers. |

Interesting tangent here - I practice labour/management law - in this area your client wants you to hate the other side, ideological reasons for the most part. I really can't tell my client that I find most of the labour-bar to be pretty decent people - we're just trying to solve peoples' problems. It's all about power in the workplace - one side wanting it, the other side wants to hang on to it - oh well, the billable hours will put my kid throught grad school!

I do define myself to what I possibly do and doing more. With the kind of activities I have, more idealistic, I guess...
Sometimes, you work because you need to do it, but the fact is, you don't like that kind of work. Well, if that is the case, you don't find yourself into it. My point is, if you like the way you do and you find enjoyment into it, you can easily relate with it. ----------------------------------------- http://bebadcreditequityloans.com http://uhmhomeownersinsurancequote.com http://mdrbankruptcymortgagerefinance.com |

Off topic here, but how often do you use mediation to solve problems rather than going to court? Do you find that clients like that better? -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

Dude, I really, really am trying to understand what the **** you say in the forums. But, as they say, I fail it. Perhaps English is not your native language, and that's fine. But please try to do better. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |
