Ok, I have told my boss that I'm heading to Army training Real Soon Now. I don't have an exact date, just a general idea at this point.

Man, it's like I ran over his dog or something. Cold shoulder city. You get the idea.

I used to think that I was somehow "inferior" by changing jobs so often (in 25 years I've worked for about 8 different companies). I get bored doing the same thing and seeing the same people day after day after day, and I thought that maybe that's a Bad Thing. But I'm seeing that often those that have worked for the same place for 20 years fall into two categories:

- the talentless, and
- the fearful

My department manager is the latter. His Mom wouldn't let him play sports in school, or own (or even ride) a motorcycle, etc. And so he was trained to avoid risk. And he, I think, resents those that do take risks.

My supervisor is also that way. We can't even have whiteboard cleaner in the office 'cause it's a chemical, and chemicals are dangerous.

Man, I will be glad to be gone for 5 months in training. You can be assured that I will be looking for other opportunities during that time.

Well, you're in for a big surprise as someone who changes jobs often: YOU ARE MARRIED TO THE ARMY! For the next 8 years, you'll be working with the same people doing the same things, in some of the world's most hostile environments.

You boss can go take a long walk off the short pier for giving the cold shoulder to someone who has chosen to keep everybody safe and free.

The cold shoulder...

The past 5 months I took a second job working in a produce department at a grocery store. LAst week I got offered a spot to coach an after school weightlifting class for 13-15 year olds. It's half the hours but twice the pay. So, I said yes. Plus most of the kids I know from the school where I teach. I could go from 65-70 hour weeks to 50 hour weeks.

I told the produce manager yesterday about my choice. He got furious. Cold shoulder, made comments under his breath, or when I was at a distance.

You have to do what you have to do. I do think that some people get jealous when others have the juevos to move on and try something new.

Good luck in the service and keep your head down.

The definition of anxiety is having two cups of coffee and a bran muffin for breakfast, and then getting stuck in traffic.

You got that right. I had a VP through a "World Class Fit" when I left a mid sized company in the DC area back in 1995. You would have thought that I had slept with his wife or something considering how personal he got about it. They did lose a major Gov contract 18 months later, but most of the engineers moved to the new company and left him behind stewing in his juices.

You have to make the decisions with your own well-being at the top of the list.
