Well I got my Federal and State Taxes filed early and was pleased to see that I am getting a refund from both of them. I was surprised to see how much impact turning 65 would have; it didn't affect the Federal Taxes that much, but the State of South Carolina was very kind to me.

I was also pleased to find that the 2007 version of TurboTax is much easier to use that last years.

So, how are you guys doing on getting this annual ritual done?

Darn it! I knew I was forgetting something.

Seriously Pecos, congrats on getting that out of the way, and I hope you spend your return in a way such as to stimulate the economy. (I tell my wife that buying beer is very patriotic)

We have my sister prepare our personal taxes. She is a former tax prep professional, and since we have our own business and some rental property, our return is too complex for my small mind to comprehend.

I wish the whole process could be made simpler.............

We are still waiting for our home owners statement. Have everything else though. My wife jumps on that like sharks on seals. It's our biggest capital influx of the year, pay off the credit card and invest whats left in Coca Cola and a trip to Sun Valley in the spring.

We too usually get some back, but realistically that is a poor use of funds. You are basically loaning money to the Government at 0% interest.

It's best to get a small amount (or $0 back), but of course that's a hard target to hit.

Well, we did end up with a refund - our businesses lost money quite nicely last year.

On another note - I hope you all did direct deposit for your refunds. If you did, you get your "stimulus" payment earlier - for us it was about 3 months earlier.

I didn't know that they were already sending those "stimulus payments" out. Thanks, I be on the lookout and will probably spend it at our local nursery on trees.

Okay - add me to the list of those whose taxes are filed! We are getting back a couple grand this year, which comes as a surprise. But, as a small business owner I never really know what to expect until our tax person goes through everything.

Pretty sure the wife already has ideas for how we will spend the money. My beer tour of America idea didn't really receive a warm reception.................

Big Grin Got our little return from the state taxes already! We have some money coming back from the feds as well.

Number two son is getting married this summer, so I suppose we will set the money aside to help with wedding related expenses.
