So IT makes some changes to the Intranet, and all of a sudden our stuff doesn't work. So I, being (theoretically) in charge of that area set about to get things done.

Everything is working now, but in the course of the crisis I sent out an email to our department telling them how to tell customers how to work around an issue. Mistake. My boss comes to me and says that he'd rather the staff not know how to do that and for them to tell the customer to call the help desk.

Ok, so I pass that along. A customer calls with just that issue, our staff member tells him to check with the help desk, which promptly tells him to call us for help. sigh

So, since the staff can't give out these instructions, and help desk won't, I get stuck dealing with some mouth breather who can't turn off his pop-up blockers.

Just another day in paradise. If we only had cheeseburgers here.

Isn't having an "control freak" boss great. I've been there and had a couple of bosses waste a lot of valuable time and energy with that kind of stuff.

Yeah, I guess I can see his point though - he'd rather the staff spend their time doing the jobs they are best at, and tech support isn't one of them.

I just wish, and I wish this all the time here, that they would just come out and say wtf they want *ahead* of time.

We were in a meeting the other day, and apparently told someone something that our boss didn't want us to tell them. Of course, if he'd spent 5 minutes preparing for the meeting and would let us know what message he wanted to give, that wouldn't be a problem.

Oh well.
