I work in the manufacturing sector, building fiber glass truck caps. Before that I was a mechanic at an agricultural implement outlet... no need for a resume but I find it insulting that Men's Health never seems to acknowledge those of us who work the night shift, in coveralls, with blood and sweat on our hands. I've never even spoke to the ceo in charge of my company let alone seen him or know his name. Why would I want to know about office politics....

I think there could still be a bit of office politics involved in working in "the trenches". I found that to be the case in some of my other jobs. I have run the gaumut from machinist to chief accountant.

I agree with you Kwahom. I think the magazine caters to their main demographic, and for those of us who aren't a part of the corporate scene, some of the content is irrelevant.

It's still a heckuva good read though!

I think that every magazine will have a varying fit with its readership. There's stuff in every issue that I ignore or read after I've read everything else. They just don't apply to me, or are something I'm not interested in. But I find that even those articles I'm not too interested in at first have something that I can use, some nugget of an idea that I can apply to my situation.

You may not know the CEO (heck, I work for a large county, and I've never met the commissioners or county manager), but you do have a boss and a chain of command. Some of the "office" politics will still apply - you may just have to modify the tips to your particulars.

Just my $.02

Man I feel the same way. I recently sent them an E-mail stating just that. I am a tile setter, and remodeler. And I really couln't care about office crap. I don't work in an office. Unless it has four wheels. I feel they should start a new section or something that mainly focuses on the man who's collar is blue. Well said.

So what things would you like to see? I have to admit, some features about blue collar work would be interesting.

One answer: $$$ Ka-ching.

They believe that more guys with bucks will buy the mag if they have articles like "How Not to Kiss the CEO's Ass" and "My Sexetary Won't Swallow"

They are afraid of putting blue collar and white collar together, it's too much for them to think about, it would be a "new" idea, they cannot find the balls to do something different.

It's big time corporate wisdom. They employ people to study these subjects. Go figure.

You know, everyonce in a while I get so tired of the crap--"We want to give you the kind of magazine you want and deserve" etc. when the bottom line is what really matters.

Like this board-the magazine doesn't give a ***** about it-there's no money involved, the participation is so low, they don't believe that it creates readership, it doesn't help them sell ads, so they don't care. cf. Dr Alfonzzzzzzzzoooooo, who probably cashes their checks every month with a big smile, because they don't have the vaguest idea what they are paying him for, nor do they know that he's not doing anything.

It's all so damm funny I can't stop laughing. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Razzer

Now, don't be a headcoach hata Big Grin

This board has seen a noticable increase in posts lately. Part of that has to do with the new forum software and the switch - a lot of former posters got an email reminding them that the board was here.

The magazine is Ok for me. I used to subscribe (for many years) to Esquire. I guess I outgrew it or something. Turns out that me at 44 doesn't have the same inclinations as me at 30.

Wouldn't you think the blue collar demographic is larger than the white collar. I'm sure the number of desk jobs out there are fewer than the many labour jobs.

You're probably right, but I wonder if the number of white collar men who buy men's magazines (other than Playboy, etc) is greater.

Maybe if you, or somebody, wrote an interesting article on stuff that would interest you BestLife would publish it. (I think that call for a big ol' LOL)
