..but 40 hrs per week is only 24% of all the hours in a week.
so i am sooo much more than my job. |

True. While the almighty dollar requires us to be away from hearth and home, our hearts lie elsewhere.

Must say that a good aprt of my heart lies in my job. I could not be happy otherwise.

Work is how you pay for your leasure. I want to be know as a good husband, father, runner, volunteer, church member. Not a good banker. I don't want to be defined by what I do for a living. I never thought about the 24% is the time you spend at work. Good wisdom.

When I was younger, my job was everything. Now, 8 hours and I am out the door to do things at home with the family. NO matter how much time you spend at the office, they can and will can your ass if they desire.
We are the people our parents warned us about. |

A cynic after my own heart. Sad, but so true with most firms. Loyalty from the worker to the employer, and vice versa, used to be the norm; now it seems to be the exception.

Here's a direct quote from the job offer letter from the company with which I've been employed for just over a year now (far too long, at that!): " ... it is understood that you or the Company may terminate this employment relationship at any time with or without cause or notice." While this Company is a subsidiary of "the largest employee-owned company in the US", they hardly make you feel welcome, wanted or valued for the long term with this declaration. X-( |

Make the most of the remaining hours.

Another 24% is in sleep... where's the remaining 52% - getting ready for work and the commute takes up 15% or so...

I have great job, and my career is on the climb, but some days start at 5:00pm. I have alot more in my life than work.
My day starts at 5 am and most days goes until midnight. I am only at work 8-5. I enjoy life! |

I hear ya. You have to make time for living outside of work. It does you no good to suddenly realize that you're 65 and haven't done anything but work.
