Interesting tid-bit - a lot of spam comes from "botnets", a network of compromised machines controlled by a single person or group. That person/group is usually tied to an organized crime group, often in Russia (but not always).

There are even battles between these botnets as they attack each other to try to wrest control of machines from one another.

So, please make sure that your virus definitions are up-to-date (especially you Windows users) and practice safe surfing.
