My wife (AKA compulsive liar) and I are finally going to get a divorce. We have been together 4.5 years and have a 2-year-old son, just to give you a little background. I was wondering if there was anything that you wished you had done before you got divorced that you wish you had done to make things go a little smoother, or get screwed a little less over.
I donÂ’t have much, just a small house (in my name) her car (is in my name) and a couple of grand in debt. I pay all the bills because she is too irresponsible to keep a job for more than a month or two at a time. She has a bachelorÂ’s degree and is halfway to her masters, but just wonÂ’t keep a job. I guess IÂ’m just wondering what to expect and how to get screwed the least in the process. Thanks guys |

I married my wife warts and all. I knew how she was. When those things became issues in the marriage I tried to blame her. But I am just as responsible. Taking responsibility for my own decisions gave me peace of mind.
Was wife was an irresponsible compulsive liar when you proposed? When you bought the house? When you had the baby? If so then you need to take responsibility for your decisions. This will put you in a much more powerful position to deal with the issues you are facing. Remember that victims never win. PS: The best thing about an amicable divorce is that you get to date your wives friends!!!You know, the cute ones you used to flirt with > My wife (AKA compulsive liar) and I are finally going > to get a divorce. My advice is, get a good attorney. I don't mean one to screw your wife with, but one that will work with you and your wife's to make things work well for both of you. Especially since you have a child involved. I was in a similar situation to you, but was married for 15 years w/2 kids and a house etc. My ex and I were in a band together and she decided the bass player was a better companion.
We have a family court where I live and the trend seems to be to keep families together. I did not have to pay child support or alimony and we both had to live within the same school district. My sons then spent 2 weeks at a time with each of us and we had joint physical custody so we both had equal say in what happened with respect to the boys. It worked really well and we both shared equally in watching them grow and graduate. We didn't have to like each other either, just keep the boys happy. Now they are both in college and my ex moved away!!! |

A nagging wife is a massive turn off! Is it a divorcable situation. If she has no other redeeming qualities than heck ya.
We are the people our parents warned us about. |
