I hope everyone had a good Father's Day. The food around our house was pretty special today: Dutch Apple Pancakes for breakfast and choice cut steaks for dinner. Clearly the way to a man's heart!!

My wife and I went out to my favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch. Then we did some yard work and I puttered around doing odd jobs around the house.

That might seem odd, but I rarely get to spend the time I want on doing work with my hands, so it was kind of nice.

We entertained my wife's side of the family at our lake place. Kind of hectic since I just returned from a one week road trip late on Saturday, but a nice time nonetheless.

I was able to show off my excellent chef skill (I grilled a few hot dogs) and I still found a little time to sit on the lakeshore and sip a couple of cool ones.

My married son and his wife joined us for the day, and I had a nice long phone chat with my younger son that evening. Also, got to spend a little bit of time with my own Dad, who is not in the best of health.

All in all, a pretty good Father's day!

Got to tell you, Father's day has always been sort of a bummer for me. My Dad died when I was only 18 months old, and even though my Grandfather was great, I still felt cheated.

He (my Dad) only got to see one Father's day as a dad. The hardest part is that I only miss the idea (I guess) of having a dad - I was so young, I have no memory of him at all.
