We're at an auction this past weekend and the wife buys a bunch of children's books "for when we have grandchildren". Yikes! I guess our son is 22 already, just hadn't thought that much about the next generation yet.

At 48 years old, I don't feel like I really want to consider the prospect, but our eldest son is getting married in a few months, so I suppose I could be grandpa before I hit 50!
The little bit of consideration I have given the concept, I think it will be fun to see another generation of my family being born and growing up. It's been a long time since we've have little ones in our home, so it might be nice to have that experience again. Besides, when it does happen I will certainly be the coolest grandpa ever! |

Nope, both of my stepsons got married, then divorced. Son is only 18, better not make me a g'daddy yet.

My son is only 22 and not dating anyone right now. That said, I was married (the first time) at 21 and my son was born just before my 22nd birthday.
I agree that it would be nice to have little ones in the house again, but the best part would be that they would just be visiting -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

5 times over, all girls. Absolutely the joy in my life. Waiting for my first grandson - he'll come along one day. All I can tell you is enjoy them, love them, cherish them. They grow up much too fast, just like your kids. They take you back to discovering the simplest joys - catching lightning bugs in a Mason jar on an early summer night or building a snowman after the first snowfall. It's ok to splash in a puddle or laugh when they "toot", Grandpa's are supposed to be fun to be around. Teach them to laugh at themselves and not at others, to lend a hand and not expect any thing back, to say
"please" and "thank you", that you have two ears-and only one mouth-for a reason. Show them what love is by the way you love their Grandma and their Mom and Dad. Listen to them when they have something to say - it is important to them and they want to share with you. Teach them there is no black or white or yellow or red or brown, God made every one on this earth the same, not different, and that we all put our pants on one leg at a time. Oh yeah, teach them that dogs love to have a bellyrub every day. Teach them love with love and patience and kindness, just like you did with your kids. Right? -- If "Pro" is the opposite of "Con", what is the opposite of "Progress"? |
