We've all been busy I imagine and have not had the time to post much of anything.
How are things going with you all? We had a dog die a week ago. She was almost 17 and was in failing health. She was the only dog I've ever paid money for - a registered Belgian Turvuren. Also, I got my medical clearance for the National Guard this week. Still trying to get in touch with my unit, but should know when I leave for training in a couple of weeks (know, not leave). -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

You are right, this forum can be a "lonely" place.
The wife and I are trying to stay cool in this heatwave that has hit the south. I measured 112 F on my patio the other day with a heat index of 124. This was under an umbrella, but there was probably some reflected heat anyway. Offical temp was 108F. Other than that, we are doing the things that retired people do. Getting to the gym several times a week, yardwork, and going out to lunch rather than dinner. Of course, we read the newest Harry Potter book!! Now that the kids are heading back to school, we will start going to the movies during the daytime again. Afternoon movies during the day are a treat; nobody kicking the back of the seat, no popcorn being thrown, and the floor isn't sticky yet. The other 6 people watching the movie will also be seniors, so there won't be much talking either; that is except for my wife who always sees something in a movie that absolutely requires a comment right then and there. I'm not sure that I have ever known a woman who didn't talk at least once during a movie. I love'em, but .... We have stayed out of airports this summer and haven't made any long roadtrips either. We will travel to South Dakota this Fall for 8 days of hiking and then a few days in Chicago. |
