The 11th of November (2 days from now) is Veteran's Day here in the US and, I think, Canada.

To all vets: the VA is asking that all veterans wear their medals and service ribbons on the 11th. I've never done that, but will this year.

To everyone: If you see a vet or active duty member, thank them for their service. Military duty hasn't always been as popular as it is right now, and yours might be the first thanks they've ever received from someone they didn't know.

Wife and I went to the local parade which ran from the American Legion hall several blocks and ended at the old National Guard armory. The armory was closed in 2001 and transfered to the
city which now uses it as the office and maintenance facility for the Parks Department.

Guests of honor at the ceremony held in the armory were the members of the National Guard unit that was activated in 1969 and served in Vietnam. Members of the Patriot Guard and local American Legion Riders were there in force, and we all signed banners to be sent to the troops in Iraq.

One sort of sad thing was that I was the youngest vet there by far. I think that my generation, at least in my area, just didn't serve at the same level that those who came before did, or that those that followed did/are.
