In a discussion on motor sports one esteemed member of this board mentioned all the scrolling on the bottom of the screen as being a distraction. I gotta say the Fox Sports has dumbed down sports to the 20 somethings who need to constantly have the 5 senses simulated or they will change channels. Watch their baseball coverage. I am sorry, but it drives me crazy to see 150 different shots (fans, joe torre picking his nose, fans, player spits or scratches, fans, joe torre eating a taco in the dugout, ect) between each pitch. Football is the same way. Also, the Fox sound effects to go along with their graphics piss me off.

Anyway, am I the only one or is this a common feeling among the 40+'s.

While I'll agree the various video shots are silly, I enjoy the data streams, on average.

As I wrote about NASCAR, short of there being a multi-car collision, watching them go round and round gets dull. Having the data at least distracts me from the announcers who often drone on and on.

Data streams can be Ok, if not overdone. That's the problem with racing - if they had a simple status panel with constant features, that'd be great. But the graphics change every 10 seconds (or so it seems).

And what is that "thing" on Fox Football coverage? Looks like a retarded transformer or something.

It is the dumbing down of sports.

Yep. It is pretty sad to see. And it's not just stupid ass graphics either. Do you remember Cosell's (sp?) play by play? Compare that to some of the losers now doing that job.

I can barely stand to have the sound on for some sports anymore.

I will often turn down the sound on the TV and listen to the local radio announcers for some sports.

Sports (mine is road racing), like sex, 'tis much more enjoyable when one is an active participant than a casual observer. Rarely do I watch any programming that cable/networks regurgitate - I find it for the most part to be an insult to what little intelligence I have. I do find a radio broadcast of an event much more enjoyable as the announcer(s) have to create the visuals in your mind. I used to catch Dizzy Dean calling Cards baseball when I was a kid, he was a treat. Besides, you can get naked with your significant other and still catch the game - the best of both worlds.

That might be, but Porn sure is popular. Likewise, sports on TV are very popular, but the coverage and commentary sucks rocks.

I found during the F1 season that I just followed the teams via the web. TV was just too painful to watch.
