Good lord. This has been a long day. I give up trying to report the number of registered users.

I don't listen to country at all. I do listen to Western though. I think there's a post somewhere that explains the difference.

Some alternative is Ok, but at 44 I don't need a daily dose of teen angst. In fact, I don't need teen angst at all. Lyrics on most new rock is vapid and repetitive.

So what do I listen to regularly? Old jazz/pop vocalists, like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. And some more recent vocalists, like Harry Connick Jr. There is a classy-ness about them that is missing in the "my parents don't understand me" rock songs. I do listen to some older rock stuff, just to think back to days gone by.

That's not to say that there isn't any good new rock/pop being produced. It's just that they don't reflect my life that much any more. Just like I don't go out and drink until I puke anymore, I don't need angst driven rock.

Musical taste, hmmmm? Ok, here goes. It's eclectic, like it's owner. Please don't flame me, I wouldn't do it to you.

C/W: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline.

Singers: Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Linda Ronstadt ("For Sentimental Reasons" cd), Etta James, Diana Washington, Ella Fitzgerald.

Big band/etc: Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Louis Jordan, Louie Prima, Spike Jones, Boney James, Grover Washington Jr.

R&B/Blues: Marvin Gaye, Sam & Dave, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Ohio Players ("Roller Coaster" gets my whiteboy groove on), Sam Cooke, Funk Brothers, Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Big Mama Thorton.

Alternative Christian: Third Day, Jars of Clay, Toby Mac, Grits, Kutless, Paul Wright, Mat Kearney, DecembeRadio, Jennifer Knapp, BarlowGirl.

Just some of my tastes. Mix in some Zydeco (Cajun music - Check out WWOZ's webcast sometime), a dash of polka, a pinch of classical and that pretty much is it. No rock, classic or otherwise, I lived the 60's/70's, and I can't relate to the screaming alternative angst that I have heard lately. I haven't listened to a commercial radio (AM/FM) station for at least ten years - same old recycled drivel - but I have gone through two cd players in my pickup the last four years.

No flame here, but how would you describe alternative christian? Is it Christian with a little edge to it?

From mildly edgy to very edgy. Kutless has a very large fan base of both Christian and secular and their tour has corporate sponsorship from Suzuki motorcycles. Very edgy alternative rock. The majority of the aforementioned bands in my post won't get airplay on mainstream/MOR Christian stations due to demographics - they don't appeal to the 25-49 yo female audience the station is persuing. Jars of Clay has been around for a number of years, very gifted musicians who might fit in CSN&Y mold, if you had to compare them to someone. Toby and Grits are hip/hop, have seen both live, and they bring a lot of energy and fun on stage and in studio. BarlowGirl is a three sister band who can rock - hard and edgy.

I listen to Air1.com on the web at work. Their playlist is a little short for my tastes, but I get to hear artists that won't get airplay locally. My college student daughter and I trade music back and forth, and sometimes her old man blows her away with some of the music I hook her up with.

Have a great weekend, gentlemen and scoundrels, I will see you all next week.

Agree on Linda Ronstadt, I also have a few Dido songs on the iPod.

Don't care for Christian Rock. Guess when it comes to religion, I'm more the quiet meditative type.

Guilty pleasure - Ace of Base. There, I've admitted it. That's the first step you know.

The main Bestlife website has a message that a new improved website is coming in January 2007. Man, I hope they do it right. I quit using Yahoo mail because I couldn't stand seeing retarded dancing shadow puppets shilling for rip off mortgages anymore.

If anyone from Bestlife reads this post - please, no retarded ads. I have lived too long to be amused by that crap.
