As much as I hate to see the summer winding down (it's a precious time in Minnesota)I must admit that I am looking forward to the NFL season.

I try to catch as many of my beloved Vikings games as I can, and also watch a lot of the Thursday, Sunday and Monday night games. I find that the night games are so well covered, I can enjoy them even if I care nothing for the teams playing. Unless it's a big blowout.

You will find me this evening with cool beverage in hand, watching the first game of the season!

Yep, I'm ready as well. Baseball was disappointing to me this year - Barry "The Juicer" Bonds, our local AA club moving to bum**** Arkansas, etc.

The Chiefs look to be solidly in the middle of the pack this year - probably a good team, but not championship material (again).

I am still a bit unhappy that they moved Monday Night football to cable, but I'll live with it I guess.

Looking forward to the season. The Patriots look like they should win the whole thing this year, but there is a little thing called peyton manning.

Peyton's looking good as always. I'd hate to be Eli, since no matter what he does he'll always be compared to his brother. And let's face it, Peyton is better than Eli.

I've been really surprised/pleased with Farve this season.

Anyone doing Fantasy Football this year?

I belong to a pool that just picks winners each week with the winner getting a portion of the total pool

Good to know. I'll alert your attorney general Big Grin

I've done the pool thing on playoff games and the Super Bowl, but never on regular season games. I did win something like $125 on a playoff pool long ago. The pool paid off by quarters, and nearly all the scoring was done in the 1st quarter, which I matched. No other scores happened until the 4th. So I won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd qtrs.

I am sure Martha Coakley (our AG) is looking for big time pools like ours.

I have never hit it for more than 1 week a season getting back a good portion of my investment. This years so far I am sucking wind.

I am kinda tired of professional athletes, so the only one I typically watch is the Super Bowl.

Now the Army-Navy Game is another matter entirely. I'll be glued to the tube for that one.

That was some wild Monday Night Football game last night. It was fun to watch, but I was really pulling for the underdogs on that one. When Dallas failed to get the 2-point conversion with less than 2 minutes left, I figured it was over. But, I guess winners tend to win, and losers (sorry Buffalo) tend to lose.

Overall, the weekends games were mostly pretty good. Not too many blowouts this week. New England looks like the team to beat, but I wouldn't bet against Peyton and the Colts.

Yep, was a good weekend for games. Of course, the Chiefs managed to lose again.

I too wouldn't bet against the Colts. Peyton is not only good, his reputation is intimidating. I don't care how much bluster a DB might spew, going up against a Hall of Fame QB has to be un-nerving.

Hey LKS! Don't feel bad about the Chiefs. They managed to defeat that powerhouse team the Minnesota Vikings! ;-)

It's a tough sports year for us Minnesotans. Although I always make an attempt to root for my Vikings, I have to admit I have been a closet Colts fan for the past few years since Peyton started tearing it up. I just think they are so much fun to watch with the style they play.

By the way, I was in your neck of the woods for business(I was in Manhatten - go K-State)the week before the Chiefs/Vikes game. I was tempted to shoot off my mouth about how the Vikings would run roughshod over the hapless Chiefs. Glad I kept my mouth shut!

You see that K-State has self-reported some violations to the NCAA?

Seems a tutor wrote some papers for 4 or 5 players. The tutor got the ax, 3 players have transfered or left the school (they did so before the investigation), one was booted for academic ineligibility, and the other is a mystery right now.

Oh yeah right!! After 31 years in the Navy that would be sacrilegious.

How about that! The Chiefs are 3-3 and the Vikings beat the defending NFC champion Bears! A good football weekend for a couple of us at least.

I thought the Dallas, New England game might be a better contest. I think Dallas is a bit overrated. Good team, yes. Great team, no. New England sure looks like the class of the league this year.
