I'll second that! Best of luck to you my freind. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works out for you.
We'll be waiting to hear. |

Ok, here's the latest:
Went to Ft. Leavenworth for a physical on Friday. Physically, I'm in pretty good shape according to the Army. I do need a "waiver" (or a granting of an exemption) for treatment of depression, but that should be no problem. Being on post was an amazing experience. It was like I was coming home after years of being away. I guess an friend of mine (a 40 year vet) said it best - you can take the man out of the Army, but you can't take the Army out of the man. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

Here's the latest - I sign the paperwork on Saturday and, pending a successful physical on Tuesday (5 June), I will be enlisted in the Guard.

LKS,
Congratulations! I can certainly understand your motivations and the satisfaction that comes from serving your country. I spent over 31 years on active duty and still miss it even though I retired from the Navy back in 1991. Good luck my friend, and I hope that you continue to post even if you get deployed. Well, especially if you get deployed. |

Well, I only spent 2 on active duty, but have missed it ever since (long, long story goes with that).
I was a SIGSEC specialist. Basically we "monitored" communications for security breaches. (They called us Buddy****ers). I'm looking at Information Systems right now, with an eye to move to a Warrant Officer slot as soon as I can. AIT (that's Advance Individual Training to you jody boys) is 15 weeks, but the pay off is a $15,000 bonus for enlisting in that MOS. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

They need a lot of IT people. In all the services and the experience they get sets them up for good careers when they get out. |

As is typical, things have changes a bit. I just signed the contract, etc, but for Intelligence Analyst instead. The critical MOS list had changed recently, and I just got the updates. So, I am now (nearly) back in - I have to pass the physical on Tuesday, then I'll be golden. Unit I'm enlisting into has received notification of deployment for next summer - destination unknown for now. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

Ok, another update. For some reason when I went for my physical, my blood pressure was through the roof. Pulse was as well. Everything else was Ok.
Long story short - I had to get a series of follow-up readings from my local doc and have those sent in. Did that, now just waiting to hear back. Oh, and I did decide on Info Systems Specialist. I want to move to a Warrant Officer position, and there are no Intel slots in the state. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

Update:
I am in, and have been assigned a unit. Went for a visit but am not in the computer yet, so couldn't order uniforms or anything. First drill (if I get in the system in time) will be in Sept. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

Got to love the bureaucracy. My DD214 (that's the discharge form) from my prior service was a bit hard to read, and someone at the State level didn't like that. So she sat on my paperwork for a couple weeks before I started calling people to see wtf was going on.
When talking to my recruiter about it he said something about some people registering their 214s with their home county. That jogged some hidden memory that I *had* done that. So I got a nice clean copy from the county and sent that off. So, finally, my records have been input into the state personal database. whew! -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |
