Just a rambling thought or two about a couple of current peeves. I seem to have a lot of these random thoughts as I approach 50!

First, has anyone else noticed that local televsion news broadcasts have become almost completely news magazine formats? At least where I live they are. We get about 2 minutes of real local news, 2 minutes of weather, 2 minutes of sports and about 15 minutes of "feature" stories. Usually something about how coffee is good for me or bad for me, or how global warming is affecting some insect in Norhtern Alaska. etc., etc. One of our local newscasts now has the main anchor do a little "editorial" piece right in the middle of the show every night. The guy stands there with a smug look on his face and tells me how to think. I don't like this trend at all!

Second, I am disgusted with so many of the prime time drama shows using unnecessary gore (CSI type shows) in place of well written characters and plots. And, the ever present "shaky camera" technique to make me fell a part of the action. It just makes me dizzy and sic to my stomach.

Rant completed!

I hear ya (although I like the original CSI). Maybe we're just getting old, but the shaky camera is irritating to me as well.

It seems that story telling is becoming a lost art on TV (and the movies for that matter) and what we get is just one long FX sequence.

I agree with both of you that TV Land is in the "Hurt Locker." It seems that if I like a show, it gets cancelled. What ever happened to the really good shows like: Dallas, Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, Ed Sullivan, Northern Exposure, and so many other good ones?

Have you guys caught that new show "New Amsterdam"?

I was a little leery at the premise - seemed like a Highlander ripoff, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

I liked Highlander. What network carries New Amsterdam?

You would ask that. Big Grin I'm pretty sure it's Fox.
