After 18 months of retirement, I still run into people who ask me if I miss working. I respond by asking them if they miss Middle School!

I can’t really complain about the company I worked for or any of the bosses I reported to. They were all at least “reasonably good” and doing their best to keep things afloat.

None-the-less, a short list of things that I don’t miss would include:
- Commuting.
- Unnecessary meetings.
- Crazy regulations that hamper productivity.
- Noisy working conditions.
- Overly complex and unnecessary paperwork.
- Bizarre customers.
- Rude coworkers.
- All the infighting and squabbling.
- Missed vacations.
- Unpaid overtime.
- Parking problems, and
- A host of other things that escape me at the moment.

In fact the only thing I do miss is some of the people, and getting together once every couple of months for lunch seems to fill that gap very effectively.

I also miss the occasional technical challenge/puzzle that you could really get your teeth into. I am still looking for some charity work that will fill this gap.

You are always hearing about someone who wants to go back to work, but I have yet to meet personally meet one.

So why do people think that we are going to miss the workplace??
