Anyone else ready for Baseball to start? Anybody going to do fantasy Baseball?
Althought the nearest team in the Majors in in KC (about 3 hours from me), we live fairly close to a medium sized city with a minor league baseball team. I'm hoping that my son and I can take in some games this season. There's also a perenially nationally-ranked college team in town that we may go see.

If you go to games, do you keep score yourself? I always enjoy doing that.

Go Royals! Break .500!

Went to Opening Day in Oakland, saw the Yankees crush the A's. I'm an A's fan, so obviously it wasn't a lot of fun, but they won the next 2.

Really, I'm a baseball slut, I'll got to 10-20 games, and watch on the tube.

You must be in the middle of nowhere, who is the local college team that competes so well?

The college team is Wichita State. The local minor league team is the Wranglers.

I cheer for the Royals too, which is hard to do since they mostly suck.

The Royals bring to MLB what the Golden State Warriors bring to the NBA. Nothing, really.

Every year, I hope Oakland will make the playoffs, and the Yankees will not win the World Series. I'm thinking it looks good this year, A's have some stars, Yankees' pitching is too old.

How is Wichita State doing? Locally here, Stanford is very mediocre, which is quite unusual.

The biggest problem with the Royals is that they are managed by WalMart. Being the "lost cost leader" doesn't win you any pennants.

WSU is doing so-so so far.

Did you know that Damon started at the Royals? He was "the next George Brett" at the time.

I just checked on tickets for the Wranglers - the best seats go for $10 each. Once the semester is over, I'm going to start taking in some weekend games. Can't beat that price.

Yeah, I knew that Damon came from KC, because he went to Oakland from there...then to Boston, now to the Skankees.

WlaMart owns the Royals? You're kidding. They ought to have plenty of $$$ to spend on players.

You are kidding. Your owners take the WalMart approach, right?

A's won today, came from behind and won in extra innings. It's all good.

Don't know if it's still the case, but after owner Ewing Kauffman died, the executive that ran the Royals was the head of Wal-Mart. The team immediately tanked.

I see that Wichita is last in their division in the Texas League. Oh well. They had a thing at a local convinence store chain that gave you $3 off the best seats. That's $7 for very good seats. Can't beat that price.

So far the best things in baseball this year, IMO, are:

Detroit looks like a contender, was it 2 or 3 years ago they tied the record for most losses?

Albert Pujols is cranking 'em out of the yard at an astonishing rate.

Frank Robinson managed to control Alfonso Soriano.

White Sox look like they'll be back in the playoffs.

Sadly, your Royals look like they will be out of contention by late June. Wink :^O

Stanford is always in the college playoffs, but this year, they are terrible, I can commiserate on W. State being bad.

Should have been more clear - Wichita State is doing well now. Have a real shot at winning their conference. I was talking about the Wranglers (minor league).

Yeah, the Royals are sinking fast. I wonder if salary caps will every be put in place for baseball. They sure have made the NFL a more comptative sport.

It's funny, but my local paper (daily with circulation of about 5,000) barely mentions the Royals. Seems that they are so bad that they don't warrant mention.

Alright, then I'm going to start following Wichita State, hope they make it to the playoffs that lead to the CWS.

That's kind of funny, that your local paper doesn't even mention the Royals now. I agree, some kind of salary cap needs to be implemented. Even if all teams didn't spend to the limit, as it seems that they do in NBA and NFL, it would even some things out if the Yankees, Red Sox and others had some constraints on their spending.

Oakland A's have the worst team batting average in the big leagues, only two regulars hitting over .250. But I think they will crank it up, they have plenty of talent, lots of it from their farm system.

I'm following Pittsburgh Pirates too, never have been much of an NL fan, but they are low budget and have some talent...

I've been trying to follow Washington. My mom was a school librarian, and she'd bring home posters that the school was retiring. For years I had a Washington Senators poster on my bedroom wall. So I was really glad when a team returned to the city.

Just got tickets for June 4th. The Wranglers are playing San Antonio (a Mariners farm club). Wish I could go on the 1st - it's $5 ticket night since the game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest.

Pretty stoked about it - haven't seen a game in person for years (the Royals just suck too bad to get my money right now).

Heck, this might seem all momma's boy-ish, but my mom is a huge baseball fan - I may treat her to a game later this year.

That sounds great, it's always to be at the game than watch on TV or read later.

When I saw your post, I was just sure that you would be razzing me-the lowly Royals came to Oakland and beat the A's last night. :O X-(

A's started the season with big hopes, they had a decent team last year, and added Esteban Loaiza and Frank Thomas. Loaiza sucked and now's he's on the DL, Thomas has hit some HR's but just got his average over .200. The papers got a lot of play out of saying that the Royals had lost what, 15 of 16, then they come to Oakland, and beat the A's.
Damn. X-(

No way I'm going to gig anyone about their team's performance. Not with the Royals being the worst team in baseball right now.

Wichita State made the NCAA tournament again this year. They're the No.3 seed in their regional. They kind of choked during their conference tournament, so hopefully they will have gotten that out of their system and will win at the regionals.

You know, I checked this morning, and Stanford actually is in the tournament too-and they are only 5 or 6 games over .500.

Texas-Arlington is in the tournament, and they are below .500. :O

Let's check back in a week or two and see who is still in the tournament, that's going to be a better indication of who is serious about this whole thing. Wink
