What motor sports to you all like? I'm partial to the American Lemans Series myself. Also like F1 and Indy car racing. NASCAR isn't really to my liking.

Anyone else?

My much-better-half and 10 y.o. are NASCAR fanatics.

Truth be told, the races never used to hold my attention for more than hour, but I've taken a bigger interest since they enjoy them. Wrecks are an attraction, truth be told, but that's hardly a sole reason to watch.

I admit it, I'm a snob. And NASCAR is just a bit too much in the "say hello to uncle dad" world for me.

It is also duller than watching grass grow. They go in a big oval. Yippee. It seems to me that F1 and LeMans (and Indy car somewhat) takes more skill. That may be just my perception though.

Chriminey LKS, you uttered my thoughts on NASCAR and I didn't know I had 'em 'til I read your post.

"Uncle dad" eh? Damn funny... :^O :^O B-)

Guess we're both stock racing snobs...

Its not that I am a stock car snob... I'm not at all a big sports watcher. This year, for the first time in many years, my hometown NY Mets are playing .600 ball. And while I'll put on a game when I know they're playing, I can't quote stats... hell, I hardly know any of the players names.

Back to motor sports, my kid name the drivers by either the car number or the chief sponsor. So I can keep up with the sport (fein interest, really) by using either moniker and he's not the wiser. In any motor sport, a really good wreck followed by the driver walking away is always pure entertainment for me.

Well, I know that driving in NASCAR is also hard - heat, dehydration, etc. It's just that the other circuits seem a bit more advanced.

It's actually good that your son knows the drivers, even though it's stock cars. I remember watching Danny Ongais back in the day, along with Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, and others.

Hey, you see that Montoya is moving from F1 to NASCAR? The NASCAR people are excited to have the opportunity to expand into the Hispanic market and into South America in particular.

I rarely watch any racing these days, like sex, it's much more fun being an active participant than a casual spectator. I race with the SCCA and racing, like any God given passion, is a drug I cannot get enough of. I'm not a kid either-I hit 53 this coming October. Racing is all I have ever wanted to do since I was a little guy.
Television does not do the sport any justice, it is definitely a sport that you have to experience to appreciate. I think every fan of the sport should have the opportunity to strap themselves into the jumpseat of a racecar of their favorite genre and experience the heat and noise and exhilaration of a racecar. It is sensory overload at it's best. But, that is just my humble opinion.

I'd like to drive an F1 car, just for one lap. Would be pretty cool.

I agree that TV coverage isn't that great now. They've added so much crap to the screen it looks like a video game. But I like following my teams, like Renault, through their websites and newsletters.

Sounds like fun - you buying? I know a guy that went to the F1 school back in 1984 or '85. He said it was a blast.

Can't, my 4-wheeled mistress eats all of my cash - and then some. Fun ride, though.

Well then, for now it's just watching on TV. I just wish that they'd tone down all the scrolling crap on the screen and just show the race.

Actually, that's the only thing I like to watch, outside of multi-car collision s(sans any injuries, of course). At least the data tells me something, otherwise the announcers drone on and the cars drive in a oval; big whup.

That's why F1 is much better than NASCAR - they actually need driving skills other than left turn Big Grin
