My son wants to learn how to kayak and since I haven't ben in one since i was about his age i told him we would take some lessons together. Any ideas about what would be the best way to go. There's a local dealer that sells them and offers clinics, I just don't want to get caught up in a sales pitch scheme thing. Me and him are probally going to go ask some questions this friday. Any ideas on what the best kind are for rivers and such?

i don't know if you have one nearby, but my family and i took a kayak lesson this past weekend through ll bean. 15 dollars for the lesson and 1.5 hours in a lake that fed into a river. great time had by all.

I'll look into it. I don't know of an ll bean near me. The place we're going to Friday cost $30 per person, it seems alittle steep to me. just going to ask some questions not sign up for anything yet. My appologises(sp?) for the bad grammer in the last post. I tend to type faster than i can read and make corrections. The nuns from grammer school would have their rulers out for that one.

i am sure the nuns in grammer school would never have conceived the idea of writing with a computer. seeing some of the stuff that is written on these sites, they would have carpal tunnel from smacking everyone!

OK we went this weekend to find out about lessons for everyone , but since the staff was so rude decided to just find an outfitter and rent some for a day trip and figure it out as we go. Maybe not the best way but it should be fun. I'll have to rent a tandem for my daughter to go with me. She's afraid to tip over and be trapped in it. Once we get going her excitement should outway her fears. I'm hoping!

the kayaks i used at the ll bean store were fantastic regarding stability. after vacations and paying for the first semester for my son in college, i am going to try and get me and my wife one each.

regarding your daughter devilsplay, is she a swimmer and are they open kayaks? also she should be wearing a pfd

She's like a fish out of water when not in the pool.
The kayaks we looked at all had the skirts to them but she seemed ok with it when she sat in one on the floor of the outfitter's store.
She seems to be afraid to be alone on a river in one, at leasst thats the feeling I get from talking to her. She says she'll go as long as she's with me. I'll try it and see what happens.
everybody will have a pfd on, even if we go canoeing I make both of them wear one.
