Has anyone read "Not Fade Away" by Peter Barton? I found it to be a pretty good book.

I'm also a big Hemmingway fan - anyone else?

The book is a first hand account by a dying man reflecting on his life interspersed with commentary by his co-author. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I've just recently started writing again. I write pretty regularly in a writers journal - jotting down story ideas and reflections.

Good luck with the book!

not long ago I sat down and started reading hemmingways short stories. I started after I toured his Key West Home and learned about his many "quirks". I enjoyed some stories more than others but on the whole it was a good read.

What was your favorite short story from the collection? I've always like his shorts better than his novels.

I'd say "The Hills Like White Elephants" is a good one. "My Old Man" is another. That should get you started. Enjoy!

my favorite was the story about a husband and wife on a surfari. he was proven a coward while tracking a lion and at the end the guide shot him.

I found that "On The Road' by Jack Kerouac was a outstanding book. If your an outdoors type of a person, Patrick McManus writes some great books filled with outstanding short stories about hunting and camping adventures filled with lots of humor and antidotes.

I've never cared much for McManus, but my son (who's 21) loves his stuff.

Kerouac is on my list of books to read, just haven't gotten that done yet.

Have you guys ever read any of the Flashman series? They are historically accurate and bloody hilarious...

They are supposed to be this English gentleman's diary of his mis adventures in the late 1800's. He is a rake, coward and every time he gets into trouble he walks out smelling like a rose. Very funny.... and for those of us who have served we have all met someone just like him some where in our travels...

If you're into outdoor adventure type stuff, I've just finished reading "Voyageur" by Brit Robert Twigger, and that was a pretty good read.
Twigger and a couple of others emulated a journey made by a Scot Alexander MacKenzie in 1793, who crossed the Canadian Rockies in a birchbark canoe to reach the Pacific, mainly paddling/hauling/portaging against river currents.
They followed the route as closely as possible, building a birchbark canoe. Apart from MacKenzie, this is the only other time this has been done. Good stuff.

Sounds like an interesting book George. I'll have to see if the local library has it.
