Do I have to live with back pain?

I am 36 y/o 6ft tall & weigh 198lbs. 3 years ago while driving on vacation. I noticed my lower back hurting, I stopped for gat and while I got out of my car instantlyI had a sharp pain in my lower back so intense I could not stand up. Ever since that episode I have had chronic back pain. I went to the Doctor and was told there is nothing wrong except normal "facet changes" I have been doing the prescribed stretches & exercises. To this day I still have some kind of back pain every day.

if you have had a doctor performs tests, mri's and the like on you and he prescribed streches and excercises and it is not helping then i would find another doctor.

If after a second opinion from another doctor you find there's nothing wrong with you structurally, you might want to work on getting more flexible, then strengthening the muscles in your lower back and your abs (if you're not doing so already as the doc Rx'ed).

I got lazy on the flexibiity for a while, and paid for it with a similar problem, but for a much shorter term.

That's a long time to be walking around in pain. Good luck.

I was referred to a chriopractor and after 2 months I feel 100% better. I did not know the military has chiropractors Smiler I still have to keep myself flexible and have some minor pain ocassionaly but I am very happy with the results. I can now run again and play with my son!

Just a note on this - I switched to a front pocket wallet and, except for a brief time after I slipped on some ice last winter, have had nearly no back pain for a year.

Just something to think about.

Not sure if this is pharmacy spam or not, but I'd look for a way to deal with the pain without drugs. Some simple changes, like thining out your wallet or switching like I did to a front pocket one helps a great deal.

My massage therapist has suggested some stretches that have helped a lot too.

Simple, cheap, non-medicated ways to help would seem to me to be the best way to go.

For me it (massage therapy) did. Chiropractic did not though.

Other changes I made:
- Changing chair settings at work
- Watching posture
- Starting to do situps to strenthen my core
- Losing weight (although this is slow going)
