What can a 51 y/o do to stay fit without spending hours in a gym? I use to lift like a mad man, but now I have little interest in that. I was thinking about biking, but I concerned about prostate issues.

You younger guys just wait....s@$t happens! Things that use to be hard are now soft, things that should get hard take meds to work the same. Getting old is a good thing, but there are issues to deal with.

thanks for the suggestion. My wife likes to walk as well. I dont run anymore as my knees were abused years back when I ran every day. Biking & walking may be the only thing now... Cool

I'm one of those younger guys you were talking about, but i wouls suggest body weight excercises, isometrics, tai chi, or another internal martial arts (bagua kung fu, wing chun, not karate or taekwon do), that is low impact.

Body weight excercises can make a huge differences, and they don't take very long...you can get your heart rate up toa healthy level in a matter of mins, with low impact excercises that require no equip.

Well if she isnt' 25, but can still go 4 miles, she obviously has stayed in shape, that's a big plus. Cool

thanks for the advice! The things you suggested are not something that I have thought about before. Im not sure that I am the martial arts sort of guy. I am 6'4" so some of these may be out of reach?

Tall Steve, definitly NOT,

(Don't gimme that crap, you're not that tall ;-) )

I'm 6'6" and I study and teach both Kung Fu and Tai Chi www.yeesing.com is my schools website, (i'm a student there).

It doesn't matter how big or tall you are, tai chi will give you the calmness, flexibility, strength, and gracefullness that every man needs (though most don't have becasue of our typical workouts)

Kung Fu will give you the strength, speed, and agility of those little guys. I'm 6'6" 248lbs. (and at one time 300 lbs.) and I was just as fast as my 5'4" 100 lb. co-instructor, she's small.

So if you've ever thought "I've alwasy wanted to try something like that." DO IT! whatever it is...do it. Don't regret not trying it later in life. Find something that fits your philosophiies in life, and you agree with. IMHO find soemthing traditional, better information, better teachers, better schools.

And you'll learn self defense with both tai chi and kung fu.
