The last time I bought jeans, sometime last summer, I wore a 40 waist (yikes!). Bought some today - 36 waist!

Man, that is great! A size 36" waist on a "Best Lifer" (translate old guy) like you is an accomplishment to be very proud of. I have been wearing 38" waist for many years. I have a couple pair of 36" waist in the back of my closet that I try on from time to time, and I can buckle them up on a good day. (As long as I don't need to breathe I can wear them just fine)

I did just step on the scale this morning for the first time in many weeks. (The dreaded Holiday stretch) I was pleasantly surprised to see that my weight has not increased since before Thanskgiving.

Now, LKS has given me new inspiration to get to that 36" mark myself.

How much weight did you drop to get from 40 to 36?

About 25 lbs. It went in fits and starts - kind of 2 lbs off, 1 lb back on for a while.

My goal is to be in 34s in a few months. That would be the smallest waist size for me in about 18 years.

So I'm going through my closet, and taking stuff that's too big out to take to Goodwill, and my wife says "I bet you'd fit into your old suits again". I'm thinking No Way - I haven't been able to wear them in 8 years. They are nice suits, not cheap at all, so I was reluctant to toss them when I started gaining weight.

So out of the garment bag they come, and I'll be damned - they fit! (well, I still could drop about 5 lbs to get them fitting well).

Let me tell you that that was a great feeling.

Well, already done did this - I was able to wear 34s this past weekend. Weight wise I'm now under 215.

Went from 40 inch pants to 34 inch pants in about 5 months. No fad diets, no starvation. Just reduced how much I ate and increased how much I exercised.

As I mentioned in another thread, I had an Army physical this past weekend. Had some really good news out of it - total cholesterol is at 164, blood sugar is good (a worry for me with my family history), in short I'm doing pretty well at 44. At this rate, I'll be in better shape at 45 (only 4 months away) than I was at 40, or 39, or 38.
