As a business owner, I have to purchase my own health insurance for the wife and I. It seems to me that we are paying out a ton of money, and with our extremely high deductable we really don't see much benefit in the insurance.
We recently tried to move my policy to a different provider to save some cash, but they wouldn't take me at the standard premium rate because of my cholesterol, and weight. My cholesterol is regulated by a medication and my weight isn't really that high. Other than blood work to check my cholesterol meds I haven't had a doctor visit for 7 years. You would think my medical history would indicate that I am an excellent risk, but I guess they don't see it that way. It frustrates me how much of our monthly income is spent on health insurance. What do you guys do for insurance? Any ideas on cost cutting? |

At the moment Uncle Sam is providing our health insurance. But in civilian life we have always relied on our employers. I would like to find a good plan that we could have separate from work. -- "No job is beneath a man's dignity as long as it is honest and supports his family" - my grandfather http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/bestlife |

I am on Medicare since I am 65. I kinda ticks me off the way the Military dumps us retirees out of TRICARE when we hit 65. I did 31 years of active duty in the Navy and they certainly implied that we would get medical coverage for life with no fees. Well, guess what? I do get prescription help, but Medicare takes a much bigget bite out of the budget that TRICARE did. My wife is still using TRICARE and it is working pretty well.
