Um, how about just eating less carbs? You don't need a diet plan to do that, just cut out starches and sugars and reduce portion sizes of everything else.

That means no/very little potatoes or breads, no soft drinks, etc.

If you insist on an official "plan", I like the Protein Power plan, but there's also Adkins and South Beach. Heck, even Men's Health magazine has one called the Testosterone Diet Plan (or something like that). You could head over to Men's Health magazine for more details.

i suggest you eat less carbs (you do need them) but make it healthy carbs. whole grain is the best, lots of veggies, and fruit.

John,

Not so fast there - whole grains are Ok, in moderation, but there are better ways to get carbs - nuts, fruits, and veggies for instance. There are also better fiber sources (like legumes, which calorie for calorie are a better source of fiber than grains).

So if you like bread, have some (maybe a couple servings/day), but choose whole grain bread. But don't look at grains as the best source of anything or even all that necessary for good nutrition.

You might check out http://thefitnessinsider.menshealth.com/2006/05/i_just_used_the.html (sorry, my company's firewall blocks some of the forums functions, so I can't format that URL all nice like).

Why do you specifically single out carbs?

You mean aside from the overwhelming data that show that reducing carbs is a quite safe and effective way to lose weight? Smiler

In fact, when I asked my doctor about losing some weight, that was the first thing he suggested. The biggest problem with a low-carb diet is that carbs are cheap, and replacing them with proteins is not.

Well, you've got a point, but I wouldn't be giving unhealthy fats a pass here.

About the only completely unhealthy fats are artificial trans fats. Even saturated fats play less of a role in obesity and other health issues than carbs do.

Check out this article on the Men's Health mag website.

Interesting article. I'll defer to their study.
