I take some medications (don't ask for what) that can cause weight gain. In fact, I gained 50 lbs on them the first year I took it. I've dropped some of that, but I'm still about 30 lbs from where I want to be.

We've been using a little article from Men's Health to plan meals, and it's been great. I'll post the link at the end of this message.

I'm also taking the stairs at work. I park on an upper level of the garage, and walk up and down several additional flights of stairs at noon (I'm up to the 6th floor now).

Next step is to start back with some simple exercises, like pushups and situps. Then, maybe, I'll hit the gym at work.

Not overweight, but I have half a basketball, made from jello, attached to my stomach.

What am I doing about it? Not a damn thing. My sorry as.s is "too tired" or "too busy" to do anything. X-(

Something's got to give...

Not sure what your schedule is like, but mine is pretty full. My Noon stair climbs take about 15 minutes. I do work in a multi story building, so it is convenient.

At night I do some pushups and situps before I hit the showers before bed. Not many yet, but I'm working at it.

Watching portions is also helping. I haven't lost a bunch of weight yet, but my pants are looser, and I feel a lot better.

It also helps that my wife is encouraging me. Support is key for me.

And on weekends, I take off from my "workouts" and go visit a massage therapist. I'm feeling better than I have in quite some time.

I too felt that "something had to give". I just didn't want it to be my body. My Mom has diabetes, so I'm at greater risk - hence the need to lose weight and just be generally healthier.

my only advice is that you first get educated. The reason I say this is that I don't advise people to do things that they think or assume will help their condition, but in fact will not, and will be a waste of mental and physical energy and effort. All I'm saying is progress and change starts in the head, I believe, and then moves to the body. I also say it because I think our society (america) has got the wrong idea about many things. But I don't know the answer to losing weight. I might suggest it has soo much to do with diet but I think people would perhaps call this quackery. But I felt if I didn't mention this I would be witholding something important from people who need this knowledge. I think our food addictions have something to do with the chemicals they put in foods or that are found in foods that seduce us into buying and eating them. Also there is convenience. This is just my feeling on the subject. It may change. I think being overweight or obese is a serious condition, and is no laughing matter. It is probably unpleasant and we know it puts one at increased risks for other disease conditions. It is quite a big risk factor.

be well
