It seems the different places I travel have a different mindset with regards to their desired physical appearance. Most recently, it seems residence of New Jersey want the large bulky appeal while here at home (Dayton, OH) most want the lean appearance.

Question:
Do you train low weight/high reps for lean muscle or high weight/low reps for mass?

Choices:
I train low weight/high reps (8-12 reps)
I train high weight/low reps (4-7 reps)

Maybe it's because I'm from Ohio too, but I'm 6'6" 248lbs. (as of this morning, i've lost 52 lbs. since january) and even though I try to lift for a lean look, I think just becasue I'm big i'm going to get a little bigger, regardless how i lift (granted if i lifted for big i would get alot bigger)

I think too (at least in my case) is I study and teach Chinese martial arts and I stretch alot, which may keep me from getting alot bigger. This ends my two cents and my first post. Hi everyone.

welcome pozzska. first off congrats on the 52 lb weight loss. i am sure that the martial arts do strech out the muscles and give you a leaner look.

I guess I'm looking for a middle ground. I don't have the body type to look long and lean, but don't want to be too bulky.

Right now, however, I'm just looking to trim down the waistline. That type of bulk never looks good, no matter what part of the country you're in.

LKS, you are defineitly correct!

220- (your age) = ???

??? x .6 = the low end of you roptimal fat loss heart rate range

??? x .7 = the high end of your optimal fat loss heart rate range

This maybe old to everyone but i just learned this after I had been doing it for months, so I thought I would share (it worked in taking my waist from 42 to 36)

I train with both low weight/high reps and high weight/low reps, alternating every three weeks.

Low weight/high reps will give you size. High weight/low reps give you strength, generally speaking. If you train just one of these ways, however, your muscles start to get used to it and you see less gains. Change it up from time to time to increase the gains.
